פָּצַל(b. h.; cmp. בצלה) to split, peel. Pi. פִּיצֵּל to split, divide, branch off; to peel, lay bare. (Bab. ed. מְפַצֵּל) if the top end (root) of the tail divides the bone (i. e. if the backbone is branched at the place where the tail begins; Rashi מפציל את העצם peels the backbone, i. e. if the end of the backbone is bare of skin and flesh). 2) to form branches, branch off. Yoma 29a מה אילה זו קרניה מַפְצִילוֹת לכאן ולכאן אף שחר זה מפציעוכ׳ as the antlers of the hind branch off this way and that way, so the light of dawn spreads ; (Yalk.
